An MRI scan of the ankle and foot uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles in this region.

If you have persistent ankle or foot pain, swelling, or stiffness that hasn’t improved, or if other scans like X-rays haven’t explained your symptoms, an MRI may be recommended.
